I’m currently taking a bit of a breather or break if you will from the Tiks of Tok. During this time I’ve been filling that time with making art… well more often.
Recently, I located an art collection book by Jasmine [TBE} who made the series Strangeling. I remember in the mid 2010s seeing her art on a website that made decals for tech devices. In my case it was a Macbook Pro 2013. I also purchased said art book from Barnes and Nobles.
I’ve had this book for almost a decade. It feels like such an honor to browse her work. I spent maybe 15 minutes in the evening admiring what likely took her decades to perfect and hone her craft(acrylic painting).
And the weight of that is indescribable in words.
It’s the same with the birch trees I mention in that video. I bought it from an artist because it just spoke to me. I recall the artist mentioning his inspiration for it while he was in Colorado.
All of this is to say, it’s super easy to doom scroll and consume art online but having the chance to own a piece of someone’s art- their time, passion, energy, love- it should be cherished.
I’m saying all of this as an artist myself because from the creating point of view, I tend to forget or be generally unaware of how my own art impacts others.
Anywho, that’s the end of my thoughts here.
